Can’t ping printer IP address

I have a Canon Pixma MG7730 which was connected wirelessly to my NEC laptop (running Windows 10). It worked fine for a year but two weeks ago, it stopped working. I’ve tried turning the printer, router and laptop off and restarting but it didn’t help. Once I could get the printer to respond by scanning from the printer operations panel, but now it can’t find my computer that way either.

After lots of googling, I uninstalled the printer drivers and tried to reinstall using the disc but the computer can’t find the printer so I can’t get past the first stage.

Next I tried checking in the printer what IP address it is using. When I ping that, the request times out.

I’m afraid I don’t know what to do next, short of buying a new printer.

Does anyone know what to do in this situation?

if you print out the network settings - check its on the correct wifi name
and the ipv4 address is what?
default gateway is ?

now look on the pc
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - Please post back the results in a reply here.

If you cannot access the internet with this PC
You will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.
If you do not have another PC
Do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply
Note: you will see entries named Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: we dont need to see that information - JUST the information above those entries

For Windows 8 or Windows 10
To open a Cmd Prompt or an Administrator Cmd prompt from the Desktop.
Use Windows + X Keys together and choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.
Latest version of windows 10 , choose Windows PowerShell (Admin)
Or Right click on the windows icon - bottom left hand side - A menu appears - choose Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin)

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

If using Windows PowerShell (Admin)
type
cmd.exe
then

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.

On the printer, it says:
Wireless LAN security: WPA2-PSK (AES)
IPv4 address: 192.168.0.11
IPv4 subnet mask: 255.255.255.0IPv4 default gateway: 192.168.0.1

I'm sorry - I don't know much about computers. Is that what you were asking for?

oh wait, my husband says he only just put the computer on the g one, it was on aterm-3925a7-a. He switched it over to be the same as the printer. They need to be the same, right? Now when I put the IP address 192.168.0.11 into my browser, I get a response about ink cartridges. Oh good grief. Is that all that was wrong? I'm so sorry. I'm off to try to reinstall the drivers and software and see if it works now. I really am sorry. I will report back.

ignore - missed last post

have you powercycled the router?
Lets try a power cycle

How to Power Cycle

"Power Cycle" process to reboot or reset the modem/router
  • Switch off / Shut down all the devices Modem, Router, Computers, Phones Tablets and any game centers using the internet connection. Also unplug devices that have power cables.
  • Now Wait for at least 15 minutes.
  • Plug the power cords back in, but don't switch any device on.
  • First turn on your Modem (or Modem/Router combination unit) and then wait for a few minutes and allow the modem to connect to your Internet Service - allow all the lights to become stable.
  • Next switch on your Router (if its a separate device) and then wait for a few minutes and allow the Router lights to become stable.
  • Now turn on your computer and other devices one by one.
  • Test each device connects to and has access to the Internet.

It works again! Thank you very much for your help. I will know now that the first step is to check these things. I can't believe in all my googling that I didn't come across making sure both my laptop and printer were using the same network name. Thank you again for being so generous with your time and expertise.

Yes, it matters what wireless connection you are on. I have a wireless printer that I set to connection b but the computers were on connection a so they couldn't communicate. Both printer and computer needs to be on the same connection.

Edit: Your post came before mine... but I am glad we were able to resolve your issue!

you are welcome , seen quite a few issues like this in the past , before routers gave security be default, often connected to wrong name , especially bt routers
