camera for Dad

Howdy

My dad has announced that he is going to buy a digital camera for himself for
Christmas and he wants some advise. I have a Sony DSC-S70 that I like very much.
It uses a memory stick for storage and downloads via USB. Aside from the size of the
memory stick that came with it I have no complaints.
I don't have any experience with other types of storage media or cameras.
I am guessing that he will do mostly email and viewing on the computer not printing
so I don't think he needs to spring for a multiple megapixel model .
He is also not very computer savvy so we must keep it simple

for my sanity.
I have loaded my software on his computer so he has seen how my camera works.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated before I send him a couple of links to read
along with my thoughts

I like my Kodak dx3500. It's rather simple but does the job just well. I guess I'm biased because I haven't used any other.
(You do not need the dock)

I have a Nikon Coolpix 885 and before that a broke 880 which they replaced for warrenty with the 885. The Nikon has so many features I will never use so why have it? Well I was talked into all the nice stuff and features by a family member. To be honest I am a point and shoot person and have no clue what white balance settings do.
I am sure your Dad is much like me. So the option is to find a nice camera that is mostly automatic with a resonable optical zoom.
As far as media goes I do like the Smart Media card.
Well thats my Two cents.

I had looked at that other link and just wanted to see about any other input.
I think you have the right idea Dave for him to keep it mostly automatic. He is quite accomplished with his 35mm slr but has gotten away from that in favor of a point and shoot model. The more point and shoot the digital the better.
I think I'll keep my comments to him very general and let him pick one. Then whatever he can't figure out Ill try and help him with

Thats what I would do. Why line yourself up for all kinds of extra work when point and shoot is really great. Remember your dealing with me a geezer thats older then Brian F.

Your right..I have this semi fancy Sony that does all kinds of stuff and most of the time I just point and shoot.

and... I'm approaching geeser status faster than I want to think about

Geeser to Geeser, I have the Olympus 510z and it is simple and automatic. You can change settings or balance on white (what ever that is) you can make changes. Default setting are great, I just point and shoot, plug it in to the computer and drag the picture folder from the camera to the desk top, I have put a "pictures 3" in my send to folder to send them there for editing.

It defaults on 1600x1200 resolution which makes great prints if you want. WalMart makes them for $.29 each, off of a floppy.
