Cable modem

My Windows 98 SE couldn't find certain files (exts. .sys, and .dll, others, about a dozen in all) when I was trying to install a cable modem. I don't have a Windows 98 CD--never did, as it was factory-installed. The only Windows 98 CD I have is for "PCs without Windows", and I couldn't find the required files there. How do I get these files and why aren't they on my hard drive?

That should be the right CD - make sure it is pointed to D:\WIN98

Your modem should have came with software - did you install that?

You can also do a search on the harddrive fro *.cab - these files are the compressed files and are as good as the 98 CD - try pinting the file wiazrd there.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was installing the cable modem software when the box came up saying it couldn't find the files.
Re .cab files. If they have the necessary .sys and .dll files, and they're on my hard drive, why didn't the Search find the files there?

It doesn't look. You have to point it to the right location.
