George W. Bush, Hillary Clinton Most Admired Again
Billy Graham finishes in top 10 for 50th time

PRINCETON, NJ -- For the fifth consecutive year, George W. Bush and Hillary Clinton are mentioned most often when Gallup asks the public which man and woman, living anywhere in the world, they admire most. The Reverend Billy Graham ranks among the top 10 most admired men for a record 50th time.

For more than 50 years, Gallup has been asking the open-ended most admired man and woman questions. This year's results are from a Dec. 11-14, 2006 poll.

Most Presidents are except for Jimmy Carter in 1980.

Hero AND villain of the year. I'd say he was neither.

We are a confused species.

Don't say that. Poochee may have to take down her "Gallup Poll" thread. :D
Never...............:)

Hilary!

Some excerpts from the poll:

Most Admired Man

George W. Bush's first place finish may seem unusual given his job approval ratings are in the 30% range, but presidents usually are the most admired men, having won the honor 49 of the 60 times the question has been asked. The last time a sitting president was not named most admired was 1980, when Pope John Paul II finished ahead of Jimmy Carter (who had just been voted out of office). Bush's flagging popularity is, however, evident in the fact that the 13% who mention him as most admired man is the lowest of his presidency, down from 19% last year and 23% or higher from 2001 through 2004.

Most Admired Woman

New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's first place finish as the most admired woman is her 11th. She has finished first or second each year since 1993, with the second place finishes coming in 1995 and 1996 (to Mother Teresa) and 2001 (to Laura Bush). Talk show host Oprah Winfrey is second for the fifth year in a row, with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice a close third and Laura Bush fourth. These four women have comprised the top four each of the past four years. Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie, incoming Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, former first lady Barbara Bush, and author Maya Angelou round out the top 10.

Any poll is only as good as it representative pollees. Who was questioned? It said "most admired in the world". Was a representative cross section of the world's population questioned. The Iraqis? The Kalahari Bushmen? The Chinese, Chadians and Chileans? Or was a cross-section of white conservative evangelicals questioned? I don't remember anybody asking me my opinion. :(

Unfortunately, the same pollees thought highly of Clinton as the ones who thought highly of GWB.

Which means they probably dredged the depths of those who failed their IQ tests for their cross section.

Edit: Oh, all right! What's your opinion?

My opinion is that most polls are self-serving. Most violate the principal of neutrality, such as in this poll. How can Bush be the most admired in the world, most of which hates him like no other president, when even at home his approval rating sits in the low 30's%?

Most admired for me? MUHAMMAD YUNUS and a local girl, who' sname escapes me, who on her 16th birthday gave rather than recieved gifts. She spent the entire day serving hot roast beef dinners, donated by her Dad, to the occupants of downtown's largest homeless shelter. That makes her a better person than I.

It really doesn't give you enough information to make that distinction, does it?

These were the questions they asked:
1. What man that you have heard or read about, living today in any part of the world, do you admire most? And who is your second choice?

2. What woman that you have heard or read about, living today in any part of the world, do you admire most? And who is your second choice?
There's your explanation.

Definitely admirable, but no where near famous enough to place on a national survey.

Agreed; a poll is also only as good as the choices offered.
