I am burning an avi. to a dvd using nero 7 ultra edition. I have a surround sound system and I need my DVD's to have surround sound. When I check my video options, under sound settings, i have the option to choose 5.1 sound, 2.1, LPCM or automatic. I tried burning with automatic and it didn't have surround sound and then I set it to 5.1 and I still didnt have it although it increased the memory on the disc. I am not knowledgeable in this subject. What do I need to do?

Could be the .avi doesn't have 5.1 audio encoded in the file. If that's the case, the best you could hope for is an upconvert to 5.1, not a real great option in my opinion. Check with the source of the files to see if they are in fact 5.1 or DTS audio.
