Hello!
I'm not sure if you guys can help me, or at least tell me what I have so that I do some research on it, but I am having an issue where my IE 7 browser is locked onto one dead end fake website (comcast home page) and will not let me go anywhere else, download anything at all, and, well, do anything.

My computer is a a Compaq desktop, I got it in 2003, I run Windows XP, my browser was Windows IE7 and I think it let me update it to IE8 but my problem persists. My virus scan is Avast, I do not have HT (though when/if this is cleared up that will be the first thing I download, along with Spybot) and when I ran Avast it found two files that 'were not scannable' and I was unable to delete them, move them, 'chest' them, or anything.

I have already tried add/remove programs however I failed to delete them from the Recycle bin (DUH to me!) so I'm not 100% sure if that will work or not, but since I will not have access to another computer until next week, I just thought I'd give this a shot in case anyone else has had experience with this particular nasty. The more I read on this the more I am seeing that people are able to go to other places on the net, even in a limited fashion, but I am not able to do that at all. I can't update my virus protection, download HT, do anything of that nature...it stinks!

Is there a name for this virus? I also should have written the website down, I never considered actually requesting info on a forum, so please forgive me. The website looks like this (I didn't put the http:// or .com just b/c I dont' want i to link to it)
___www.astra.comcastonline.__/nocache/nocache/.__

Anyway, thank you so much for your help/knowledge/advice. I really appreciate it!
