Broken Drill (stuck drill bit)

782 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Macboatmaster
Hello,

I bought this drill a couple of years ago. I've only used it a few times and it has worked fine for me. However I lent it to a male friend (much stronger) and now the drill bit is stuck and will not come out.

Don't anyone know how to fix? Seems a shame to throw out working drill just because of stuck drill bit.

Any help much appreciated

The usual way is to use a pair of mole grips to grip the bit
Then use a pair of water pump pliers to grip the chuck. If you wish you may wrap the chuck with tape or simply a piece of cloth to protect the plastic chuck if the pliers should slip
Rotate the chuck anti clockwise
That way you can normally release the chuck
Mole grips or similar - you need to really tighten those on the bit
Only to show you what I mean i case you do not know what mile grips or locking pliers are

Thank you for that I will see if I have suitable tools in the house to do that.
If it works will the mechanism work thereafter again?
I cannot possibly know
If the chuck inside is Ok and it has simply jammed the bit
YES

Have you asked your male friend to try to remove the drill bit ? Seems only fair that he tries since he was the one who caused the problem.

Yes he tried with strength but no luck.

It worked that you so much. First the drill bit came out but the bitclaws wouldn't work so played about with the wrenches and back to working well!

Thank you for everyone's help
Cheers
Pleased to have helped
Even the male friend, is not able to grip the bit and the chuck. however strong he is with the grip of wrenches.
As a matter of interest the problem is often caused by not tightening the keyless chuck sufficiently in the first place and the spinning chuck then tightens too much with the force of the motor
