I have a motorola SB5120 broadband modem that has ports for both USB and Ethernet connections. (I've put this question to motorola but thought I might get a quicker reply here.) I have two computers not networked and would like to know if I could use one computer for the ethernet connection and the other computer for the USB connection. Any ideas?

i aint sure but i think u should be able to but your connection speed eg say if your maximum download speed is 1mbps then it will be 512kbps on both computers becouse you are sharing your speed :)

There's no way to use both ports on the modem at the same time.. The firmware will not allow it.

The best way to share connection with both PC's is with a router.

Or the cheaper way - a simple crossover cable between two NICs, then the Client connects through ICS providing the Host is on.

This works for me and I'm famous for being the UK Champion Networking Dumbo.

I've set up a good old fashioned dial-up connection to tell my MODEM to connect, with or without the AOL software. That way, I don't need to enable ICS on the Host (my main PC) every time I connect. Then the Client (my laptop) can get on, again either through AOL or IE whenever the PC is online. Maybe it's my Host and Client terminology that are wrong here.

I'd recomment the router, it has a number of advantages. Broadband routers are dirt cheap, and rebate deals are everywhere on them.
