Hi, I have downloaded the driver from BA, the icon is there, the light is on the speaker but no sound only a slight crackle. Can anyone offer me some advice as to how to get them to work?

I sure wish you luck with this these are good speakers and I have seen 2 other times this happened and they were both defective speakers. I see no reason a speaker would not work with XP, by the same token do you have the newest correct driver for your soundcard?

I have to ask since it's so many people make this mistake, you do have the male jack inserted into the light green hole, right? If so, have you tested that output with another pair of speakers? Any cheapie will do. Also, you don't have it muted, right?

I know these are real basic and you may be way beyond this knowledge wise but you don't say what you have done to resolve this before posting here other than a driver download.

Yes the male jack is inserted in the speaker with the light. there is only one male jack, nothing plugs into the computer apart from the USB. My old standard speakers worked with this computer. And no it is not muted. The sound card I'm not sure what I have but that is something to look into, and it may need to be configured for digital. I don't think there are errors in device manager, I would not know how to detect an error anyway, what would I look for? I did not build the PC I bought it second hand it is an Ipex Micro office with extra stuff you know the stuff that makes it go faster and store more stuff.

Hi guys, I'm just wondering where do I need to make the changes in device manager, is it under: sound, video & game controllers or under system devices ie system speaker? Also how do I find out what sort sound card I have and how do I reconfigure it for digital. I really appreciate your input. (and no there are none of those things shown in device manager, Triple6)

I purchased a new Dell and they would not work, I disabled the intergraded sound card in windows and installed the old sound card from my old gateway computer. You can go online to Gateway and see your Old profile it will give you the driver to the sound card and your speakers will work fine on XP, there great speakers. You will need your computer info to get the driver from your old Gateway
