I have a Advent laptop will no CD drive. When I start it up it shows BOOTMGR MISSING. I follow the prompts, ctrl, alt delete it does not work.
Any help is welcome.
It may be the hard drive, but there are other possible causes, try running this Startup Repair and let us know what happens. Was the system without a CD drive when new, do you have a Flash Drive and access to another PC, this will enable us to run further checks?
Restart the computer.
As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears.
Use the arrow keys to select Repair your computer and hit the Enter key. If Repair your computer is not in the menu stop and let me know.
Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next. If you know your keyboard is for another language then select that from the list.
The system will scan for installed operating systems. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next. If it does not find any operating systems, stop and let me know.
Select your user account and click Next. If there is only one user account this will go straight to the System Recovery Options.
Select Startup Repair
Startup Repair will now scan your computer to attempt to find and fix any startup problems.
NOTE: Startup Repair might prompt you to make choices as it tries to fix the problem, and if necessary, it might restart your computer as it makes repairs. If repairs are not successful, you'll see a summary of the problem and links to contact information for support. Your computer manufacturer might include additional assistance information.
If problems cannot be found, then click on Next.
NOTE: You can click on the View diagnostic and repair details link to see a detailed summary of what Startup Repair has done. Please make a note of the information and post it back here.
If the Startup Repair runs and the system still won't boot up normally you can run it again up to three times to allow it to complete the repairs.
mark, he started it in tech tips & I moved to Win 7 originally, thinking it was probably W7
It is no good him having an XP cd as he doesn't have a cd player in that laptop
Hi Derek, I can see where the confusion has occurred and I had already noted the lack of CD drive, made that post in a hurry while dealing with several other threads .
Signal, sorry for the initial confusion. Now that has been cleared up, try this:
As soon as you switch on the PC start tapping the F8 key, it should eventually show a menu, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select Safe Mode with Networking, then hit the Enter key.
Tell me if it will boot up. Post back any messages you see.
