Help please. Boot disk failure in win xp
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi im new to these forums but please could somebody help me with a problem that has developed in my machine.
I run a :
2.8Gig p4 800mhz fsb ht cpu on an abit IS7-e mobo
512mb ddr400 ram all in one chip with heatsinks installed
Gecube ATI radeon 9600 pro 256mb
400w power supply
3 hdds : 160gig maxtor sata (split into 3 partitions, 1 is c: )
40gig maxtor ide (slave, 1 partition)
40gig unknown drive (master, 1 partition)
cdrw rom
dvd rom
Win xp home (when problem started was sp2)
I recently read an article about overheating in computers and how this can deteriorate the life of a computer significantly. Therefore i thought to myself that i should order a new case, with extra cooling measures that could be installed. I did this and bought a spacewarrior case from vusys i transferred all the contents of my machine carefully across and it worked perfectly so i decided to improve the cooling and bought in some 12cm fans to make sure there was air being drawn in through the fron and being expelled properly from the rear. I installed the fans very carefully and made sure i didnt touch anything that i didnt need.
When i next turned the pc on it didnt boot and a message came up saying bootdisk failure insert system disk and press enter. So i looked in the bios to see if anything had changed and nothing had. I hve had problems with ide cables before so even though i hadnt touched the ide cable since i last had seen it working i changed it out thinking that maybe that was causing it. No effect still the same problem. checked all the connections to the hdds power supply ram all i could think of, still no change. so i used my win xp disc to repair the installation, no luck, but i could get to the desktop but if i restarted the computer myself then the same problem would appear even if i was loading from the cd drive first.
I next tried to reformat the drive earlier today still no luck as itcomes up with the same error that i earlier experienced if i changed boot priorities back to hdd first. however it now will boot as long as i have the win xp disc in the drive and set it to boot from cd first.
Can anyone help please.
