Some days ago, when i was at my favorite forum(timezone), a virus alert from norton popped out... it said that a virus called bloodhound.W32.EP was in the directory C:\WINDOWS\system32\wininet.dll

The desktop image also changed, and coulnd change it! The wall paper said something about some spyware called smitfraud...

The spyware... smitfruad...was i able to remove quit easelly, but the virus thats a hard one...

Then i went to update windows(had not done it) and i installed all security packages, but one... and when i know that wininet.dll is the internet exstension for windows, i had the idea that the virus was using the file for something, and when its used it can't update it!

I think i just need to update it, baecuase then it overwrites the virus...

but is there a better/easyer way???

HELP!!!

best regards Rune B
ps. i have tried to scan with online scans, avg, nav, dr.web cureit, and emtying temp files, bin etc.

hi, welcome to TSG.

Are you sure the virus is wininet in System32 because that's a legitimate foile, but there is a wininet.exe? Anyway, we'll deal with this later!

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Download this file: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/reg/smitfraud.reg

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following programs, if found:

Security IGuard
Virtual Maid
Search Maid
PSGuard

Exit Add/Remove Programs.

*IMPORTANT* Be sure you know how to VIEW HIDDEN FILES

How to show hidden files in Windows

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...Virus Corporate Edition&ver=8.x&osv=&osv_lvl=

do a ctr/alt/del and in taskmanager stop these processes if running.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\shnlog.exe
C:\WINDOWS\popuper.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intmon.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msole32.exe

Doubleclick smitfraud.reg and confirm you want to merge it with the regsitry.

Download the pocket killbox

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/killbox.php

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Delete on
Reboot. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each
of the following lines one at a time then click on the button that has
the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file.
It will ask for confimation to delete the file on next reboot. Click
Yes. It will then ask if you want to reboot now. Click No. Continue
with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of
these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box. With the last entry
click Yes to reboot. If killbox reports that some of the files are missing
then just continue with the rest until all pasted into the killbox.

after your computer starts up, boot into safe mode

How to boot to safe mode

Run HijackThis and put checkmarks in front of the following items.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

Make sure you can view hidden files.

How to show hidden files in Windows

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...Virus Corporate Edition&ver=8.x&osv=&osv_lvl=

Using Windows Explorer, delete the following (please do NOT try to find them by "search" because they will not show up that way)

FOLDERS to delete if found:

C:\Program Files\Search Maid
C:\Program Files\Virtual Maid
C:\Windows\System32\Log Files
C:\Program Files\Security IGuard
C:\Program Files\PSGuard\PSGuard.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Services

Reboot into normal mode.

1.) Download the Hoster Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.

Download the Hoster from: http://members.aol.com/toadbee/hoster.zip. UnZip
the file and press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.

www.funkytoad.com/download/hoster.zip

2.) Download: DelDomains.inf

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

Should the link above display the text instead of downloading the file, then copy & paste the text into notepad and save the file as DellDomains.inf
To use: right-click and select: Install (no need to restart)
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

3.) download and run ccleaner.

http://www.ccleaner.com/

Run ActiveScan online virus scan here

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

When the scan is finished, anything that it cannot clean have it delete it.
Make a note of the file location of anything that cannot be deleted so you
can delete it yourself.
- Save the results from the scan!

Post back with a new Hijack This log when you are done.

have hijack this fix these entries. close all browsers and programmes before
clicking FIX.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PSGuard] C:\Programmer\PSGuard\PSGuard.exe

put this file in the killbox and delete on reboot like the last time.

C:\windows\system32\oleadm.dll

delete this folder in safe mode if need be.

C:\Programmer\PSGuard\PSGuard.exe

go to this site and download these tools and once you get both
adaware and spybot, update both of them.

Set adaware to do a full system scan and deselect, "search for neglible risk entries".
Click next to start the scan.Delete everything adaware finds.

reboot and now run spybot

Spybot: Search and destroy.

Delete what spybot finds marked in red. After updating spybot hit the
immunize button.

reboot again

With CWshredder close all browsers and programmes and select the FIX button.

Go here and download Microsoft Antispyware Beta. First in the top menu click
File then Check for updates to download the definitons updates.

After updating look in the right side of the main window under "Run Quick
Scan Now" and click Spyware scan options. In that window put a tick by Run a
full system scan and then put a check by all three options below that then
click Run Scan now.

When the scan is finished, let it fix anything that it finds (have it
quarantine the items that have that option rather than delete just in case.
It is a beta program and there may be false positives)

Restart your computer.

All tools can be downloaded at the link below!

. Microsoft® Windows AntiSpyware
. cwshredder
. SpyBot search and destroy
. AdAware SE
