Blank screen

So I have suddenly started having issues with my old HP HDX 16 laptop since yesterday. The rig is a Centrino 2 machine with 4GB RAM and Windows 7.

What happens is that when I start it up, I see the HP logo, then the screen goes black instead of showing the Windows 7 startup screen. The LED lights are on & I can hear the fan buzz. I then see the Windows welcome screen with a loading icon, and then everything goes black again. The LED lights are still on & the laptop seems to be on as well.

Now I have tried troubleshooting a few times but no results. I try going into HPs own startup menu by hitting escape on the HP splash screen, but that again takes me to a blank screen without Windows starting up & the PC still running. Same result when I hit F2, F8 or F12.

I know it's an old machine, and I have my wife's macbook on but I need my data back. Help!

The HP HDX 16 series laptops come with Windows Vista 32-bit/64-bit.

When and how was Windows 7 installed in it?

What's the complete model number?

There will be a dash and additional characters after 16 that comprises the complete model number.

Yes it indeed came pre installed with Windows Vista, which I have used for a good 4 years. The IT head in my office did a format and clean install of Windows 7 about 8 months back. I have been using it regularly since then.

The exact model is HDX 16-1050ee

Here is the troubleshooting section on startup issues.

If that's an office laptop, you should have the I.T. department look at it again.

Actually its my home computer, and the IT guy upgraded it as a favor. Don't wanna bother him again so trying to solve this myself.

Thanks for clarifying that, as it's not our policy to assist with office/work-related computers.

Hopefully, the HP troubleshooting section will be helpful.
