Hello everyone

I seem to have a problem with my vga, at least thats what i think it is from reading many other posts.

I have just got a new mobo, which was working fine until the other day when it started taking a good 5 mins to load up. So i tried to repair xp and then it would stop with 34 mins remaining. i managed to get around this problem by starting set up in debugging mode.

As always, it created another problem with my services and dhcp would not start so i took the drastic action of backing up my stuff using crappy files & settings transfer wizard. After that i done a full format and re-installed xp. It resolved the problems with the services not starting. the display was looking fine.

But yet again, it created another problem, i tried to transfer my files & settings which would work, but the display would be very patchy like with no icons in start menu or my documents. i downloaded the latest driver for my graphics card (ATI Radeon 9600) and installed it which seemed to install ok as there were no error messages.

Re-started the pc hoping it would sort the display out but instead it would load the windows logo with the progress bar and then when i should be seeing the welcome screen it just goes blank with only the mouse cursor visble. my hdd led is on and appears to be loading stuff but no matter how long i leave it it will not show anything.

As the mobo has onboard graphics i removed my ati card and tried with the on board display and still getting the same problem.

i have tried booting in safe mode, vga mode, debugging mode and last known config but still it does nothing.

i have also tried doing a chkdsk using recovery console and it freezes at 65%. I am currently trying another repair but i dont hold out much hope!

if anyone can help me, i would really appriecate it as i am very tempted to throw the damn thing out of the window!!!

Thanks in advance.

The cpu is around 40c and mobo 30c but i think i narrowed down the problem.

I took a big risk and installed xp on my back up drive and then attatched my problem boot drive as the slave. I can see everthing on the problem boot drive and the files settings wizzard did replace all of my files. So im guessing there was a problem with the driver that displays stuff.

Do you think copying the drivers from the working boot drive to the problem boot drive will make it display something after the windows logo?

Cheers for your help!

no drivers have to be installed, not copy pasted
