Hi, I have a problem that is starting to bother me. I fdisked and formatted a 3.2 gb hard drive and then installed Windows 98se on it. Then after I installed all the windows programs I ran the scan disc program from Windows and it showed 8,195 bites in bad sectors. So I figured the hard drive was not good so I fdisked and formatted a diffrent 3.2 gb drive. After installing all Windows programs I ran scan disk again and it showed 8,195 bites in bad sectors again! I tryed it one more time with a 2 gb hard drive and sure enought it showed 8,195 bites in bad sectors. Can a virus Live in the cmos and be causing this? By the way , I did remove the cmos battery and install a new one ( also reset all cmos settings) I have restarted the computer several times and installed and uninstalled large programs ( as a test) to see if the bites grow . But the numbers stay the same . Why do I keep getting the same bites in bad sectors and what could be causing it to happen with 3 diffrent hard drives ?

I'm a newbie trying to learn. Are Bites in bad sectors a huge concern, and if so why and what should I do about it. When I do a scan disk, it definitely reports a significant amount of bites in bad sectors. And what does "bad sectors mean?

You have not told Scandisk to auto fix errors.
This is no reason to start over.

Get it ?
By the way fdisk is fdisk no matter where it is except your hard drive, for installing Windows.

When I ran scan disc I did click to automatically fix errors. And the type of dick I'm using to run fdisk and formatt is a floppy that has both of the commands on it plus 2 other commmads. 1 to install win 98 and the other to install win 95. I then install win98se from a cd.
thanks
