Is there a specific problem that you think requires tinkering with BIOS settings?
XP's HAL can override BIOS settings in many situations so that changing settings is really not advisable unless you have a good reason.
An error in flash updating the BIOS can reduce the machine to recyclables, especially if the BIOS chip is not removable.
Now that the warnings are out of the way, it is probable that a new machine with your processor has a FailSafe BIOS or some other way of recovering from BIOS mishaps.
