BIOS can't detect hdd

959 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  crjdriver
I've built my first build, and everything went cool and awesome until I tried to install Windows 7. Apparently my BIOS cant't seem to detect my hdd, on which I want to install Windows 7. The strange thing is that the BIOS detects my optical drive, but no hard drives what I've tried.

My motherboard is an Asus HM110-A, the Hdd is a Western Digital (WD) Green 2 tb.

Thanks!

First check that the sata port you are using in enabled in the bios. Most boards default to enabled however do check. Next [if that was not the problem] change the sata data cable and use a different pw connector.

The sata port is enabled, because I tried using it with the optical drive, and it works just fine, but simply it just wont detect the hdd. I've tried changing the pw connector, it stll doesn't detect it.
You may simply have a failed hard drive. Have you tested the drive in another system?

Green drives from WD are not the top of the line [those are the black drives which are more reliable]

Just tried out in another system, and it wasn't working. The strange thing is that it was new. I'll attempt to get a refund, if not, that's not a big deal. I tried with a drive I didn't even know I had, and it worked! :) thanks for helping!
You are welcome. You can mark your own thread as solved using the button at the upper left. No need for this one; I will mark it for you.
BTW you should really get a ssd drive. Once you use a system with a modern ssd, you will NEVER go back to a mech drive.
A 500gig ssd is $160 at the egg;
