Belkin Universal card reader problem

2086 Views 10 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Shortcutter
I have purchased a Belkin Card Reader ref no. from the packet FAU044bt. This number does not bring up any
info on the web and my Windows 7 computer is not picking it up. I am trying to use it to import photos from a
Canon PC 1586 camera. Can anyone help ? Have I bought the wrong type ?. It had no directions in it.
It is called a UNIVERSAL MEDIA READER The information on the package literally needs a magnifying glass to read it ! It says on the box it supports Windows 7

Does it look like this?
https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F4U003-Universal-Media-Reader-Black/dp/B001IAWBIK
or this?
https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F4U044ebAPL-Universal-Media-Reader/dp/B005UUY2HC

Your title says Card Reader but your description says Media Reader so I tried to find one of each.
You said FA ... but both models start F4...
so I think this might be it
https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Universal-Media-Reader-Cable/dp/B00OCG5UXA

It should be recognized as soon as it is plugged in.
Sorry, you are right about the FA being incorrect. The number is not 033 nor 044be however, it is F4U044bt. I tried this number on Amazon and it came up with

Belkin Universal Media Reader - Compactflash [cf] Card Microdrive Memory Stick Memory Stick Duo Secure Digital [sd] Card Multimediacard [mmc] Minisd Card Secure Digital High Capacity (f4u044bt) WLM

Is this not what I need ?

A
I don't think the camera model is correct either. Is it a PowerShot? EOS? it should be written on the front or back of the camera.

Sorry. On top of the camera it says PowerShot A1200 with what looks like HD conjoined beside it. On the bottom of the camera (not the sides) it says Canon 3.15v
PC1586 CANON INCORP made in China ! Also FC N118. The C has another C inside it. It has a 4x optical zoom 12.1 MEGA PIXELS though I doubt you need all that.

Thanks for your time
I just thought the camera information might be relevant but it appears it should be compatibile. It's odd that I can't find any reference to the number F4U044BT on the Belkin site.

I'm just curious where you purchased it from since it's hard to find on the Internet?

Did you install the drivers for the card reader?
If it is not recognizing it as soon as you plug it in your computer it may be defective. Supposed to be plug and play for XP/Vista/7. Also you said you were trying to import the pictures from your camera with this. You have to plug the Belkin Card Reader in a USB 2.0 port and take the memory card out of the camera and put it in the card reader to transfer the pictures. Some cameras have a USB cable you can get to transfer them directly to you computer.
You can get the Interface Cable IFC-400PCU from Cannon to transfer the pictures .

No I didn`t install the drivers. Thanks for the info re transferring from camera without using the Belkin. I had discovered that since I first wrote but it doesn`t alter my problem as I need it for transferring photos from my SAMSUNG Mobile GTS-5230 as well. I believed it was "Universal" ! The memory card from the camera works ok in the slot on my Epson Printer WF-3540 - an SD MS Duo input. I tend to confuse the mobile with the camera when talking about photos any way - sorry to sound so vague. I am getting on a bit.

We purchased the Reader in Torquay on holiday in June so it will be difficult to return it if it is faulty. A stupid thing to do I suppose. I had been wanting one for ages and had more time to think about it on holiday.

I am really grateful for the interest people are showing. As you said, Belko`s site isn`t much help though Amazon sell this type.
Yes, you can get another for about $15 on amazon. New EGG was $71 , that was weird.

Thankyou all for your time. I think I will give up on card readers. I find I do have a SAMSUNG lead (didn`t recognise it because it only has a pin man engraved on it as ID) and I have finally managed to get my mobile pics on to my computer. I am not at all sure how - I find Samsungs NEW PIC STUDIO completely mystifying but I must have done something right. I will mark this solved. I probably bought a duff Card Reader - should have had more sense.
