I have BC Wipe on my computer, which wipes all free space. I was reading about SPIDER, and how it will seek out urls stored in index.dat files.

Will BC Wipe take care of those stored files or should I have Spider also?

Thanks.

Hiya

BCWipe might do this. The thing is, your DAT file gets replaced at startup anyway. The spider produces a log file, so you may want to wipe this. I am assuming you are using the 7 d.o.d wipe. I don't actually know if there will be any detrimental problems that may come from wiping the files. You can view all the URL's with Spider but not with BCWipe.

Marlo, BCWipe does not clean your 3 index.dat files when you use it to wipe free space.

I am a mom who needs to "spy" on teen's internet usage. Know this sounds bad but I am just trying to protect them. Anyway, I have heard that even if files are deleted you can still view sites by using "spider" but I don't know how to access that ? thanks.

here's the link for Spider

You can view the hidden url's without deleteing them if you like also you might not want to delete all your cookies with this program because you will have to reenter password and such at sites you trust. A cookie manager of some sort would probably be better for that

sorry to ask this but I downloaded the items and they are on my desktop as folders or zip files-I did right click open, but nothing happened. How do I actually "use" these to see the urls, etc. thanks again. Ugh!

Hiya

Did you download the one for The Spider that buck52 gave? This is the main one. It will be as a zip, but do you have Winzip installed on your PC? If not, download the free one from here www.winzip.com

Extract Spider.exe. SpiderBite is not worth putting on. Now, when you get the spider installed, press the magnifying glass and it will search.

The other links that hewee gave are for programs to enable you to 'snoop' on what they are doing. Spider just shows you all the URL's (sites) they have visited. These can be removed from History, but not DAT files manually.
