I dropped my laptop down two stairs the other day, and now the screen doesn't work. If you shine a light on it, you can see a little, which leads me to believe its the backlight. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Its a Sager D47K, with WinXP Home OS

EDIT: I tried to hook it up to an external monitor, and that didn't work, it just shows the screen like when you click "stretch my desktop on to this monitor", which wont help me.

Is there a way I can fix it without ordering a new one? If not, how can I set up the external monitor as a clone? I tried hooking it up before booting, which works on most computers, but when I boot up it just extends the desktop onto the second monitor...

No, I doubt it can be fixed.

There's probably a set of keys you need to press to do it, the function(FN usually) and one of the function keys across the top like F4 or F5. If not then you'll need to use the laptop's LCD and access the display properties, there'll be setting to clone or mirror the display to the second monitor.

Is this the trick/key combo that you showed me to get my busted laptop display to an external monitor? I don't remember what it was, but it worked...

There are a number of threads here about replacing the backlight and inverter. It's not a really difficult job, but it does require you to have some mechanical ability. There are also places on the web where you can buy the backlight and inverter modules for the repair. It's probably less than $50 to fix the unit, plus your time.
