I find many things running when I ctl alt delete.

I unchecked a lot in msconfig yesterd. (Styxx I have run defrag, scan disk, and am up to date on mcaffee.) what freaks me out is things listed in MSCONFIG that arent on this list (or are maybe named differenly) Ive only got 37% free resources as I send this.

Cmanager enternet etc. for SBC yahoo dsl and I run aol 9.0 optimized

Go here http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.php for a complete and very thorough list of startup items and whether or not they are necessary. Most are not and tend to kill system performance

Click the Start button; Run; type 'msconfig', without the quotation marks, in the Run box and click OK; Then click the Startup tab; Uncheck anything you don't need running in the background. For reference on what's not needed running in the background in the System Configuration Utility, view this website first and print out the list:

Except for EXPLORER, SYSTRAY, RNAAP, and your antivirus program, most of the others can be unchecked and disabled from loading during startup.

The Pac's Portal site has the most comprehensive list(over 4,000) on startup items, so make use of it.

There's not even any need to run RNAAP at startup...it will open when you dial up.

That's correct. You don't need RNAAP checked in the MSCONFIG startup tab. It will add itself to the Close Program list once you activate the connection manually.

I was waiting to see if anyone was going to comment on that.

True. The SBC stuff doesn't have to load at all. Usually you can get away with unchecking the LOAD STARTUP GROUP ITEMS on the GENERAL tab of MSCONFIG. If you uncheck it, reboot, and go back into MSCONFIG, you will see that the things you ABSOLUTELY need are automatically checked.
