Download the latest AVG Free installation package from AVG Free 7.5.432
Run the AVG Free install file
Choose the Uninstall option and follow the setup wizard, when you get to the part to remove user settings, select it.
Restart your computer then reinstall AVG using the setup file you downloaded and update it.

Hi, When I try to uninstall 7.1 version the same error message keeps coming up ie the registry database is corrupt(1009) so I am not able to uninstall it

ewloe: You might need to download and install AVG 7.1 again. Then try to uninstall it. If the uninstaller does not have all the files that it sees in it's removal path it may fail to uninstall. If that works, then give 7.5 another try.
p.s. Just my opinion but I would strongly consider giving ME the heave ho and going with either 98SE or XP, preferably XP. Windows ME has some very definite problems and is not supported by a lot of programs.

Hi, Thanks alwrmc and golfbob,
I am unable to find a 7.1 version, which might resolve the problem, and I have tried to uninstall in safe mode no joy.

Here are the older versions of AVG 7.1. If this is not the version you need, on the right is a list of the older versions.
If you have the newer version AVG 7.5 installed, you might need to completely uninstall it first.

You can try. Did you try the uninstall in safe mode from Add/Remove control panel or from the AVG setup? Try the control panel if you haven't. If all fails, you can send a report by email to:
[email protected]
With the following information.
the exact error message shown when you open a Details screen (Details button on the Installation failed screen)
the AVG7INST.LOG file, which should be located in %TEMP% directory for Windows, usually C:\Windows\Temp\ for W95/98/ME/NT
or any information that you can give.

You can go through the registry and try finding and deleting all instances of anything that is related to avg. Barring that, you can first try an automated registry cleaner that will remove dead links (entries to files that don't exist).

Have you tried, Start> AVG Free Edition> Uninstall AVG Free Edition?
You might create a folder in C: and name it Download. Then download a fresh AVG installer and
save it there. Then try running the AVG Free install file from this location and choose the Uninstall option.
Remove user settings when asked, if you can get that far.
Have you checked to see if you have a restore point before you installed the new version?

Give whichever is the closest to the version you have a try. The problem is that the uninstall routine is looking for a file that is not there in one version but is there in the other version.

Yea, I'd just go for the closest version AFTER 410.
