Autorun Exterminator

338 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  sandemon1989
My flash drives keep writing shortcuts to themselves; I assumed I had an autorun virus, so I downloaded Autorun Exterminator.exe to fix the problem.
When I click on the Autorun Exterminator icon, it seems to shoot an image towards the toolbar, but nothing appears and there is no progress bar...no indication anything is happening. How can I make sure it's working on my laptop?
(There is no program listed in 'programs and features' in control panel).

According to CCM.net, it only looks for autorun.inf. Autorun.inf files are usually present in CD, DVD and USB memory sticks. If you got a virus that already has established persistence in your hard drive, this exterminator will nothing to stop it. because it is not an autorun.inf file.

Better to google for 'online scan' and download several well known antimalware one time scanners like Kaspsrsky, TrendMicro etc. One time scanners are free.

Thank you.
Another good anti-malware app is the following. It is Malwarebytes.

I had Malwarebytes, they suck as a company...I cancelled after only having service 3 months out of a year...I keep the exe file for Malwarebytes Free on my laptop, and run it occasionally. I did it and it may have helped...the problem seems to have gone away.
