I Have an ASRock Mother Board Model P4VM8

It has 2 x SeialATA 1.5Gb/s connectors, and supports RAID,0,1,JBOD, SATA HDD_Hotplug

I wanted to know if I can connect a SATAII Hard disck to it.

What is the difference between them.

From what I've heard, SATA 1 and SATA 2 are kind of like USB 1 and USB 2:

You can plug either one into either one, but they will only work as fast as the slowest piece.

IE: If you plug a SATA 2 drive into a SATA 1 port, it will run at SATA 1 speeds.

If you plug a SATA 1 drive into a SATA 2 port, it will run at SATA 1 speeds.

I'm pretty sure about this, but can anyone else confirm?

The specs on your board indicates that it has two 1.5Gb/s SATA connectors. A 3.0Gb/s drive MAY work un-jumpered, and then again it MAY not work.

If the drive doesn't run un-jumpered with the board, all you have to do is jumper the speed limiting pins to a 1.5Gb/s transfer rate, and it should work with the board.
