Greetings !
I have a ram upgrade query for the following Laptop
ASUS VivoBook 15 M509DA-EJ740T AMD Quad Core Ryzen 3-3250U 15.6-inch FHD Compact and Light Laptop (4GB RAM/256GB SDD/Windows 10/Integrated Graphics/FP Reader/1.9 kg), Transparent Silver : Amazon.in: Electronics

We have had this laptop for past 3 years and I wish to upgrade the ram. This is my daughters laptop and I just noticed that 4gb would certainly not cut it, and the further load of shared graphics memory. On seeing some youtube videos I observed that the 4gb is soldered and I am left with just one slot to upgrade.
My concerns :-
This is the model I wish to buy

Amazon.in: Buy Crucial RAM 16GB DDR4 3200 MHz CL22 Laptop Memory CT16G4SFRA32A Online at Low Prices in India | Crucial Reviews & Ratings

1. This laptop needs a 2400 mhz ram chip, but that is not available in the good brands. Can I go ahead with the above ram chip ? ie 3200mhz)
2. The older utube videos showed people upgrading with 4 gb , 8 gb , If you'll are fine with the 3200mhz , should i go with 8gb or 16 gb variant ?

Would appreciate some replies. Thank you

This from ASUS. If on board 4gb then upgrade is to 12gb.
But as per post #4 you can sometimes pass the specs. It may take more then 12.

That processor you have supports ram
at
PC4-19200 (DDR4-2400) Memory
see here
AMD Ryzen™ 3 3250U | AMD
System Memory Type
DDR4
Memory Channels
2
System Memory Specification
Up to 2400MT/s

if you try and use ram that is faster than that at its base speed there is every chance it will not work
The 2400 refers to Mega Transfers per second
often expressed as 2400 MHz

Whilst I agree that sometimes you can install more ram than shown on the Asus spec, that is sually when there has been a firmware update to allow such.
That is unusual when one of ram "sticks" is NOT a slot but a presoldered - ram chip to the system board.
As yours is.

Personally if it were me I would go with Asus spec that as posted says max ram with 4GB pre soldered is 12GB
12GB with 4GB standard (soldered)

I certainly would caution you against buying ram from anywhere that suggests you can use more than an 8GB stick or faster than the shown spec. UNLESS from somewhere where it wil be refunded without question, if it does not work

This one will do you fine
Samsung 8GB DDR4 PC4-19200 2400MHz SODIMM NON-ECC Unbuffered 260pin 1.2V CL17 Single Rank. Compatible memory for VivoBook 15 M509DA
VivoBook 15 M509DA SAMSUNG 8GB DDR4 PC4-19200 Laptop SODIMM SINGLE RANK DDR4 Memory RAM Module - Best Price SAMSUNG 8GB DDR4 PC4-19200 2400MHZ SODIMM NON-ECC UNBUFFERED 260PIN 1.2V (memorystock.com)

I urge you NOT to buy the value brand at £17.95.
Samsung chips are far more reliable than some value brand chips

Thank you so much for the replies. Will certainly go for the 8gb chip. Unfortunately, back home the component supply chain restricts itself to recent/current tech. i.e. 2400 MHz availability is an issue and warranty claims are nonexistent. 3200 mhz would be easily available and in a wider variety.
Will keep you posted.
Ciao.

YOU may be OK
It will likely run at the CPU speed of 2400
Only trying it will tell
