Ok so this is such a stupid question when I know so much about certain things, but let me go on.

For some reason Windows is automatically arranging icons by Modified in Open File dialog windows. However if I open explorer and go through my directories they're all organized by Name.

Why is windows doing this and how do I set it back to automatically organize by name? I have tried nearly everything I can think of, is there something I can change in a reigstry somewhere?

In your open dialog, have you tried clicking the View icon and selecting Details and then clicking the Name column header so that is sorts by name? You can also do the same thing by right-clicking in an empty space in the dialog window and selecting View/Details.

Yeah I tried that. It's nothing to do with the way I'm viewing them. It's how windows is arranging them. Everytime I change it to name, it switches back to modified even if I try rebooting.

Turn off the Desktop Cleanup Wizard. Right click on your desktop, choose Properties and click the Desktop tab. Click the Customize Desktop tab, remove the check mark "Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard Every 60 Days.

That didn't seam to work. The only place the icons are doing this is in Open and Save dialogues.
