Hello everyone, I am new to these forums, but I have a problem that has plagued me across 3 systems.

I am using Windows XP Professional, SP1 with all updates.

The problem is when I use various applications that have been written in Visual Basic 6.0 (and a few rare applications that I'm not certain of the programming base) and click on any grey portion (non-active) of the window, the application locks up. This means I cannot left or right click, nor can I access any Toolbar or Menu. The application unlocks when I click on any other application, or bring up the task manager. If I click on aforementioned areas in the original application, it locks up again. Also, clicking to drag an onscreen object also results in lock, with no drag operation performed.

I hope someone has experience with this problem.

I forgot to mention something interesting:

I temporarily fixed this problem by using a DOS based Defrag program. I never let the defrag occur, but the startup to it seemed to be enough to solve the problem. On the computer's next boot up, I the problem came back, and I had to use the temp fix again. Anyway, I hope that sheds a little light on this problem.
