Well, I just set it up on my computer to test some things before transferring files to my linux server. It seemed really basic. Install it and start the service - why don't we start there... Are you able to start it with no probs? Can you access http://localhost which should give you a generic page?

yes, i've installed apache, and it brings up the sample page as it's supposed to.

to be more specific, i'm serving up a ton of music to stream, and need to know if i have to adjust apache to recognize .rm (real media files)

do i need to alter it much, or just change i.p. address, enter documentroot, and get on with it?

thanks so much for your answer, i appreciate the help. the book i have is so detailed, i have no idea if any of it is relevant to what i want to do.
