I recently bought my girlfriend a Dell Inspiron 1501 and it connects to wireless internet just fine. But at her own house, they use AOL, and I've tried to hook it up and it just won't work. She uses XP, by the way. AOL will install, but it won't find any access numbers. It says there's a Physical Connection error, and recommends 1) making sure the cable is plugged in, 2) restarted 3) trying again in one minute. Needless to say these asinine solutions didn't do anything. I looked around online and various people recommened uninstalling or repairing AOL Connectivity Services. Didn't work. According to the computer, the modem is working fine, and there's nothing wrong with the cable (I tried to same one that they use on their desktop that works fine), so what is this problem with a physical connection it talks about and how can I fix it? I believe the error message was 46-NPQE or something like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not many people here use AOL, so I wouldn't expect many responses (if any). About the only thing I suggest is calling AOL. If you're going to pay $20+ a month, you should demand some service.

Well, all I've done while I was over there is trash talk AOL. I can't believe how badly they can fall behind every other competitor. It's like they have the name recoginition and don't actually have to do any work to keep customers. Their customer service is practically non-existant. Maybe I can talk them into switching to one of the cheaper services, like Earthlink or whatever else there is anymore. They should just switch to cable and all this would be solved! Thanks for the response, though.
