Hey all-

I'm looking for a decent place to get a PC for 200$ or less. I have gotten my last two from TD and they've been great

Just thinking about replacing this old 600 MHz IBM, but I want to know if there's anywhere else I should be looking.

Preferred Specs

Anything over 1 GHz
no HDD Required
512 RAM Minimum
no CD Required
no OS required

I've considered a barebones machine I have:

Pioneer DVD-RW
WD Caviar 120 GB
USB 2.0 4 port Card
NVidia AGP Graphics Card
Sound Card
NIC Card
an OS
512 MB of PC133 SDRAM

I just don't want to have to go out and buy a processor and RAM

Any suggestions?

I want to try to limit myself to 200$ and I figure since I have a decent internet connection I should get a more decent box...

Depends on what you're looking for. If you don't mind refurbished Heartland America currently has for sale in their catalog a small quantity of IBMs, 1ghz Pentium 3, 30gb hard drive, with a network card, 128mbs ram, keyboard, Windows 2000, and a DVD Rom for $199.99. You just have to have your own monitor. It also has a 90 day limited warranty. I got this catalog a few weeks ago so if you're interested you might want to check their site and see if it's still available.

I'm not affiliated with them in anyway, they're a mail order company with products I've purchased over the years at prices that are probably the best I've seen anywhere.

Don't buy a dell, what ever you do. Buy the parts individually assemble yourself.
I am not disagreeing but what are wrong with Dells besides their support? All they do is put the parts together and their machines are fairly cheap as they buy bulk from companies like AMD and Intel.

No case unless I use this old IBM's. OTOH, I think I might want to keep this one functioning and give it to my sister. Soon I will have two spare HDDs (a 60 GB and a 15 GB), as I am planning to replace both those with the 120 from this and buy a 160 from Newegg HERE (111 for backups and what's left (probably around 40) for Windoze.

A barebones would be great, I just have yet to find a very low cost one that only has the case, PSU, mobo, and CPU

Mine are all off-lease refurbished ones that are awesome machines at the moment. The 600 is just a bit too weak

They buy BAD parts cheap. I'd rather pay a reasonable price and get a good system.

My mate bought a dell for 2.5k USD. I then made the system buying the parts individually and it was over 400 dollars cheaper.

1. "Made to break......" how are they made to break. I think you blaming the people at the places that make the CPUs, GPUs, HD, and RAM.

2. They don't put locks on computers! :p You can open it and repair it yourself. ;)
