Hi! I installed McAfee anti-virus program. My question to anyone is this: How do I just check an attachment that comes via e-mail (outlook express) without downloading all the updates that come along when you access McAfee. It always checks for updates first - and then it downloads them. All I want to do is a quick check for one attachment without going through all the above checking, downloading, etc.

Can you help me? I have Windows 98 with IE and Outlook Express.

The updates should be done prior to using any applications or email programs to ensure that you have the latest definitions. You only need to do it once and you can either save the attachment directly to the disk and then scan it, or set up McAfee to automatically scan incoming mails in your inbox. It does have an email scanner built in, you just need to configure it for your email client.

We are on the right track. You understand what I want to do. I do update the anti-virus weekly already. How do I configure my anti-virus to automatically scan e-mail when it comes in? What are the steps?

Hiya

On your V-shield in the bottom of your screen, next to your clock, doubleclick and select Configure. You will see the System Scan properties dialog box. On the left hand side, you will see E-mail scan, download scan and internet filter

I grabbed that off a FAQ not from Mcafee. At the main site, they say that you have to save the attachement, and then scan it.
