I use the free version of AVG. Last night an alert popped up. It says:

File name: C:\System Volume Information\_restore{a bunch of numbers i'll type out if it's important}. EXE

Threat name: Runtime packed upack.
Detected on open.

I did some googling and found out that System Volume Information is part of System Restore which enables you to restore your computer to a previous version of itself. it backs up all files - good and bad - and that AVG is finding an infection I removed from the computer but not the backup. I think I'm supposed to turn System Restore off and then on again and it will get rid of the infection, but still back up my files, but I can't find how to do that. Could someone walk me through it and let me know if there's anything else I should do?

Running Windows XP 2002.
