So I had the XP SP2 installed on my computer...it slowed my computer way down and caused all kind of other problems (blank webpages, programs wouldn't start up, etc.)...So I uninstalled it. My computer is working better, but it still has some issues with slow down that were not happening before I installed sp2. So I noticed there were SP2 hotfixes--a bunch of them--still in the add/remove programs dealie. So I figured, I have it off anyway, these must be the problem. So I started getting rid of them; however, after a few of them I got to one uninstalled it and my computer shut down and came up with a blue screen of death with some kind of mrxsml.sys error. Needless to say I got my computer back to normal with the system restore, but it made me wonder if I should be uninstalling these sp2 hotfixes...any advice?

Go here and download http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

Do a scan and it will show you what is on your computer

I have never installed SP2 but I do have SP2 fixes . If you go to Windows Updates it will scan your computer and tell you what you should have . Dont accept SP2 at this time until you have things cleaned up

Thanks for that...I did have some sp2 fixes missing...but I am wondering could these cause problems like the full sp2 download did? Will deleting the left over sp2 fixes improve my computers perfomance or just screw it up?

I can only say I have never had any trouble personally nor have I noticed complaints from this area . Only the full installation of SP2 seemed to give problems .

If you delete the SP2 fixes you are getting rid of necessary patches making your machine more vulnerable to problems .

You can delete them all and if you dont notice any change reinstall them . If there is a change reinstall them one at a time until you have trouble again then go from there to find a solution . Make sure you have SP1 installed .

You should NOT uninstall those hotfixes, they are needed whether you have SP2 or not ...... The very fact that Sp2 failed to install properly indicates that your computer probably has spyware, so go here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html and download adaware, before running it click to update it then get rid of all that it finds .....

Next go here http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10122137.html?part=104443&subj=dlpage&tag=button and download spybot, again update it before running then get rid of anything that is ticked in RED ......

Finally go here and download to its own folder (important) hijackthis and post a log back here for analysis .... http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

I made sure there was no adware on my computer before and after installation of XPSP2...There are no problems in my Hijack log nor problems caught with the lavasoft or spybot...so that eliminates that problem...I was just wondering if the SP2 hotfixes were needed...thank you for answering my question...I have reinstalled them and everything is fine. I was just wondering if they were needed. Again Thanks.
