I have a 250gig western digital harddrive and running on windows xp. My problem is that every once in a while when my hard drive is off and I put in a flash drive or sd memory and then turn on my ext. it will assign it to the next letter of the port. I have my music and videos on my ext. so it screws up windows media player because instead of being on F: it is now on G:.

I tried shutting down the computer and the harddrive, removing the flash and restarting but it still has left it at G:. Is there a way to assign it so that it doesn't get changed all the time because i started off at E:!! im sure this is an easy fix, so thanks in advance!

You can change all the drive letters apart from the boot drive"C"
Go to start>run and type diskmgmt.msc and hit enter
I would pick the external drive as the last letter in the chain
