I have a very annoying problem. When I use the pointer & hover over anything I get that extremely annoying information box. For example, if I hover over the "start" it comes up "click here to begin" or if I pause on the X it says "close" (DUH!). It is extremely annoying & I need help to find where to disable it. I am usuing XP SP2.

Value Data: [0 - ShowInfoTip Disabled / 1 - ShowInfoTip Enabled]
Exit Registry and Reboot

also you can try this..

To turn off balloon tips in applications that support XP Themes:

1. Start Regedit
2. Goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\
3. Create a DWORD value of EnableBalloonTips
4. Give it a value of 0

Thank you. I followed these directions & rebooted. The information box is still there. For instance, when I bring the mouse over "Tech Support Guy" on top of the page the following comes up with the pointer, "Tech Support Guy Forums".

I recall when I first set up the computer I was asked if I wanted this enables & thought it would be a good idea with kids using the computer, but it has proven to be a distraction. I cannot for the life of me, find where I enabled it.

I get the same thing..

Those instructions I guess disable it in XP and Eplorer.

Maybe someone else know the trick to disable them in firefox or maybe its Techguy that has them..

My advice: Deal with it. It's not crashing your system, it's not killing your preformance, and it's not hindering your work. If you're so ancy, don't let the mouse hover over buttons long enough for it to happen. Balloon pop-up tips, I understand, but this is unnessecary.

I can really see the comparison between a frequently used key combination that kills my X server and a slightly annoying little popup that tells you what something does.

Okay man. I'll post repost something I've said before.

It's not crashing your system, it's not killing your preformance, and it's not hindering your work.

Her problem does none of these things.

My problem crashed my X server, therefore hindering my work. That's two of the three things I listed. Her problem, does not do anything of the sort.
It's just a small little informative box with words in it that pops up when her cursor hovers over a button or thread title. Nothing is crashing, nothing is dying, the machine is not slowing to a crawl, and the little box goes away as soon as the cursor is moved.

Now can you see the difference?

Press Win+R and then type "regedit" into that prompt.

Then click here.

There's your fix.

I'm not sure why I'm not surprised, but it was already set at 3E.... so that was not helpful, nor was your extremely rude comments. If you want to made such rude comments than I suggest you back it up with some computer literacy as you claimed to have.
