Annoyed!! Can't connect to internet!!

So I'm stuck going to the library for the rest of the week if I want to access the internet at a reasonable pace. Just being connected to the internet nearly locks up mom's computer, so I thought I would be smart and hook up my MacBookPro to her internet connection. BOY WAS I WRONG!! I didn't realize that even though a phone line (for dial-up) would fit in the port for the ethernet cable, it would not be able to access the net. It did try though, it popped up with the network connections thingee and tried to get it done, but no. I even tried to get SCTelcomm to hurry up and get the wireless installed, but they are "too busy" to get on that right now, even though it was ordered a month ago. At least they aren't charging for it yet...that would suck for mom if they were to charge her for a month when they hadn't even installed it yet.

Why don't they put a modem connection or whatever on the new computers? There are still LOTS of rural areas that don't  have high speed internet yet...are those people supposed to be forced to drive to town and borrow the computer at the library (like I'm doing right now GRRRR!!!) or just do without??? Sorry, that was my gripe session for the day...:(

So in case they never get around to putting in wireless at my mom's house, or my dad's for that matter, is there something I can buy to hook my MacBookPro up to a dial-up connection???

After looking at that page, I do kinda remember thinking I should have bought one of those with my computer...But we have DSL at home, so I guess I didn't think about it...*kicks self in @ss!* Oh well, hindsight is always 20/20! :) However, thanks for reminding me of those, I think I'll put in an order...wonder if my student discount will get me one for cheaper?
