I've got AOL and I use AIM. I want to cancel AOL, but want to keep my screename for AIM use. AOL says its not possible, is this the case? Any way around this?

Download and install Netscape 7.1 browser which has aim included with it before you remove aol.http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/default.jsp

Mobo what will that solve? That will just give me the software, I don't need that. I want to be able to keep the same screename. Is that possible?

I left AOL MANY years ago. They told me then that I couldn't keep my s/n for aim. But I did and never had any problems with it. In fact, I still have it and use it.

JustME. you canceled AOl and your aim account still worked fine?

Good browser with an excellent popup blocker, download manager, skinnable and built in Aim package. In short it will give added security over Internet explorer and you will still have aim and you can use you old account that Aol told you you couldn't

I undestand what NEtscape is, I'm very familiar with mozilla. can you please explain how using netscape allows me to keep my aim screename?

If you were to load Netscape then you could open Aim from within netscape then set up the existing account then delete Aol.

Yeah, JRoss. I downloaded aim and used it for approx. 2 weeks before I cancelled my aol. I was able to keep my screen name, as was my husband, and my daughter. We still use them all with no probs! And we've been gone from aol for 5-1/2 years now.

just download the aim messenger, the use your AOL screenname, if they happend to delete it (i doubt it), the just make it again. really quite simple.

can't make it again, AOl names aren't recycled for 6 months. But it seems Justme got it to work, despite AOL telling me exactly what you just described was impossible!

Forgot about the 6 month thing. That's exactly what they told me, too. But I never lost access to aim.
