Hey guys, new member here (new headache for some). Anyway, my job is running Adobe Acrobat (legit), we are trying to install Adobe Acrobat Standard, only thing is under Adobe's agreet ment only 2 PCs-1 Copy.

we are LAN (ethernet) wired, and instead of a server, I believe we are all file sharing off my boss' PC. Is there a way I can install to his pc and have Adobe for everyone to use or am I talking big trouble?

I'd greatlly apreciate any feedback.

No, you cannot run Acrobat off of another person's system. Acrobat requires several entries in the system registry, which you won't get from running off of another machine.

If your agreement allows 2 installations from 1 copy, you can install Acrobat onto 2 machines using the same key. You don't need to run it off of one.

It has been a while since I did this with an older version (ver 4) of Acrobat. We had Acrobat installed on one department PC that was not used too much. Acrobat was configured to check a shared folder for new incoming files and automatically convert them to PDF files. The incoming files had to be PostScript files. This required that the other PCs had to have a generic PostScript printer driver installed. We then printed to a postscript file rather to a printer.

It was a bit of a pain but it worked. We checked the shared folder a few minutes later and either found the PDF file or a log of a failed attempt.

If everybody just needs to make basic PDF files (no bookmarks, hyperlinks, forms, etc.), you might want to consider a free program like PrimoPDF. It installs on each user's PC and is treated as a printer by any application running on the PC.

If you need a program that will write PDF files and you can install on multiple computers without running into licensing problems, try Open Office. here http://www.openoffice.org/ this is totally free and really works well.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I had a feeling it couldn't work like that and after my damn three hours on the tech-line from adobe. Its "protected".

I've tried to explain to my boss that we don't need Adobe, in fact we were just fine using reader, I mean out of 5062 documents we put out "1" was in a pdf format and we had a printing group do that for us.

I think I'll just use the copy on my Boss' and our Geologist' PCs. Besides I hate being the IT guy when, I don't know anything. thank you very much everyone.
