So I wanna upgrade my hardrive...it's the only thing slowing my pc down (see specs in my sig) And this is what I'm looking at- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136033

Now what I would love to do is use this as my Master drive (duh) and keep the 120gb Seagate as the slave for storage...Now I would cry if I lost all my games, music, and videos that are currently on the Seagate so how do I go about doing this? I know I have to do a fresh install of windows onto the Raptor, then would I transfer everything that I want to keep from the Seagate to the Raptor just by clicking and dragging? Like all my music and stuff...then I right click the Seagate, format, and it leaves a file system? Then I re-transfer all my music and suck to the Seagate and leave everything I want to load fast on the raptor...like games?

Shoot I think I answered my own question. Is all my assuming correct? Is this a difficult procedure?

Actually, all you should have to do is clone your existing setup to the new drive, then configure the Raptor as the boot drive. No need for a fresh install of Windows if you don't need it.

First might I say good choice on drives, the command queuing makes that bad boy fly.

Secondly you do not need to perform a fresh install of windows but I still would. In fact I take every opportunity I can to reformat my system. Microsoft software likes to clutter itself up with a ton of crap until it grinds to a halt running stuff you don't need to run.

You could clone your current drive to your new one and boot it up fine so long as you do not have more than 74GB of data on your current disk. If you choose the fresh install option the file transfers are quite easy to do. It's all drag and drop, but the process can take quite a while if you are moving file from one drive to another and then back again.

Alrighty, well I just scored one on ebay for $130, not too shabby. I think I'll do a fresh install on this drive, move everything to it, clean the Seagate, then move all my media and such back. I'd really like to use the drive for all my dvd's and such...thanks guys! I'll probably be back in a few days asking for help :D

Edit: I just thought of something...how am I gonna get all my games onto the Raptor if I just do a clean install? Is that drag and drop as well??? Like I just find the game, for example- C:/Programs...Doom 3, and drag that to the Programs folder on the Raptor?

It's a widely held misconception that you need to reinstall Windows every few months. The only reason to reinstall is if you're having problems. I have better things to do with my time than to spend hours reinstalling Windows all the time. :D
