Dear all

I am using windows 2003 domain controller.i also have Addtional domain controller for the same domain to avoid failure purpose

now my windows 2003 primary domain controller is failed . i can't able to activate . So i wish to activate my additional domain controller to act as an primary domain controller

what's step i've to do....

If AD and DNS was set up both computers and working correctly go to the backup DC and open a command prompt and enter DCPROMO

It sounds like tkmuthuvel already has another domain controller. The remaining domain controller will be able to run things fine but you need to change things in DNS, DHCP so that they point to the new domain controller for things like DNS. Also, you may need to change any paths that point to the old server. I'd take a look at the errors in event viewer and get to work fixing them. Once you fix all or most of the errors (you're probably getting something with gpt.ini and global policy processing) your new server will be ready to go. I believe you also have to set the new server to be a global catalogue because the previous domain controller had that role.

Yea, I guess DCPROMO wouldn't apply then. It should be fine as long as the second server was actually set up as a domain controller.
