I upgraded to a. reader 8, it will not run I just get a message " has encountered a problem and needs to close" I run windows xp media. Where should I start?

Try uninstalling and take another run at it. I have it installed here on XP-Pro, seems OK.

I opened a bunch of large PDF files, and the two tasks that are associated with Adobe Reader totaled 100mb or more at times, but when you stop scrolling, they drop back down to around 60mb and 25mb.

You may want to consider uninstalling Adobe Reader 8 and then doing a repair of your installation.
