Falluja, Iraq - 31 March 2004

A vengeful crowd of cheering Iraqis dragged the burnt and mutilated bodies of four contractors- three of them American - through the streets of Falluja yesterday after killing them in a vehicle ambush.

Television pictures from Falluja showed one incinerated body being kicked and its head being stamped upon. As one corpse lay burning an Iraqi came and doused it with petrol. At least two bodies, their skin burnt away, were tied to cars and pulled through the streets.

Some body parts were pulled off and left hanging from a telephone cable, while two incinerated bodies were later strung from a bridge and left dangling there.

A 12 year old youth was seen to pick out a charred victims eye and swallow it - shouting Americana

The above is not a copy/paste - but part of a satellite feed I obtained yesterday. Most of it as sound transmission - but quite a substantial amount of pretty gruesome video footage. It was transmitted via Hotbird satellite for News Corp - Prior to studio editing.

These were civvy's helping in the restructuring of Iraq.

I have seen many gruesome inhumanities in my life, but am still sickened by it all

Once again this has nothing at all to do with Islam. It has to do with a group of fanatics that have twisted something to meet their own ends. Christians have twisted the teachings of the bible forever so what's the difference.

I agree that this incident is very distrurbing, but so is every other death related to this conflict. Whether it's an entire family being obliterated by a missile, or contractors being killed and dragged through the street.

Two questions though:

1) What does this incident have to do with Islam? It sounds much more plausible that the men who killed these contractors did so in the name of (extreme) Iraqi nationalism.

The fact that some or all of the men involved were Muslims (the majority of Iraqis are) doesn't mean that they killed the contractors for reasons pertaining to their religion.

If an Iraqi man or woman showed any sort of kindness to foreign contractors, aid workers or soldiers, would you credit "Islam" for their kindness? Of course you wouldn't.

No offense, but as usual, your bias is clearly showing. Like many others here, you seem to seize on any attempt to disparage a religion that you don't care for (at least, not "the new Islam" as you like to call it), by associating it with the crimes of it's so-called adherents.

2) I have read at least 8 or 9 articles about this incident, and not a single one made mention of a 12 year-old boy eating the eye of one of the dead contractors. Could you provide any further links that would back up this claim?

Again, no offense, but it sounds like a falsehood or rumour, interjected (by others) simply to emphasize the "savagery" of the Iraqis. Similar to how Japanese soldiers used to tell the natives of Pacific islands (during WWII) that to become a U.S. marine, you had to kill your own mother.

This is proof of the ignorance of the masses in countries like this.
I feel that Mohammed was a false prophet and the Quran is nothing more than a joke. Terrorisms and this religious rabid way of thinking sounds alot like David Koresh and his freaky beliefs. And on top of that These complete brain dead and brainwashed people bend the Quran even farther.

I'm am not saying every Muslim is a terrorist, but they do have enough in their book for leaders to influence the people to adopt this position. They have, and they will continue to practice this sick way and distortion as long as there is no internal protest against this. Let those who are for peace speak louder than those who kill.

Then rejoice in the bargain which ye have concluded: that is the achievement supreme.” “And if you are slain, or die in the way of Allah, forgiveness and mercy from Allah are far better than all they could amass.” (Surah 3:157 Al-Imran 3:157)

Islam in obedience to the Qur’an is the main force for most terrorism today we are witnessing today. If you don't believe this, investigate who the majority of people are that are doing the terrorist acts throughout the world.

Their expectations? Do they want to live in peace with others and allow people the freedom to choose? There are some who believe in peace and there are numerous verses that speak of not killing or harming others, even animals. But Militant / fundamentalist Islam's goal, is able to use passages in the Qur’an for their goal of bringing all mankind into submission (“Islam”). And if not then the other option is to kill all “infidels”, unbelievers if necessary (these are the unbelievers in Allah and Muhammad his prophet, not unbelievers in God (Sura 2:190-192;4:76; 5:33; 9:5, 29,41; 47:4).


The whole thing is one big Serial Killer's wet dream

These people are totally brainwashed

This is an example of the hatred and violence that is included in the Quran that can be used by those of this religion. This book is the foundation upon which this religion is founded. This begins to explain the motivation and the action we see by those who put these sayings into practice. Islam is not based on the individual opinion of Muslims, but the Qur’an.


This endless killing in the name of Allah or whatever is yet another example that man is still barely out of the caves in many Countries and people's

(2) My report is taken verbatum from a recorded Feed transmitted from within Iraq to the Hotbird satellite system over Europe. Other similar transmissions were made over a period utilising the Astra satellite network. From both Astra and Hotbird (Eutelsat) this footage will, I presume, have been re transmitted to your Echostar satellite system to Fox etc.

I think your post is ignorance and intolerane of anothers religion.

The incident in Falluja had more to do with the old regime and people not wanting to loose what they had than it ever had to do with religion. This town was always a stronghold for the Sadam republican gurd and his secret police. I am sure there are still loaylists that think his regime will rise again.

In order to keep things in perspective, please allow me to explain what I mean by the term Feed

I have a 1-8 metre motorised satellite dish that moves in a south facing arc 180 degrees from west to east. This enables me to pick up over 118 geostatic communication satellites. Many of these sats have transponders dedicated solely for Feeds , and used by various news agencies such as Reuters, News Corp and the BBC.

So when I say verbatum, thats as transmitted. The rest is up to the recipient ( ? news) editor.

I tend to side with Rockn on this. Extreme brutality like this isn't totally about what creed you might have been born into/adopted. A recent Christian example I can think of happened during the Phalangist onslaught on the Tal'zatar refugee camp out side Beirut in the Mid 1970s. People were being tied to cars and dragged to their deaths in a similar way - though I'm not sure those poor people in Iraq were dead before the whole hideous event reached that stage. How can a world move on in so many ways and still be blighted by events like these is a question that would need an entire website to try and untangle. Even the language can be defeated in an attempt to make sense of the senseless...............and the awful thing is that those guys were there to help the very people who killed them. These are very dangerous times -

I know this Oldie, you've remarked on it before. But your volunteer work, while certainly commendable, doesn't afford you any credit as an unbiased, objective observer. I've never accused you of not liking Muslims in particular, only of unfairly disparaging Islam as a religion.

When Jesuit missionaries travelled to the furthest reaches of the earth, they often acted quite charitibly towards the natives that they encountered. They still, however, viewed their lifestyle as savage and pitiful.

Point being: One can show kindness towards others, while still harbouring certain prejudices and biased opinions.

Regarding the satellite feed; I don't doubt that this item (the boy eating one of the contractor's eyes) may have been reported in the feed you saw, I only remarked about the fact that of the numerous articles I've read on this event, not a single one mentioned or even alluded to this particular occurence.

Nor could I find any information that may indicate why this boy would eat the eye of a charred corpse.

As of right now, the occurence would seem (to me) to be unsubstantiated and therefore, should not be lent any sort of credence.

If further information becomes available which substantiates the claim made in the feed, then obviously I will have been incorrect, and will say as much.

Folks, I don't think Oldie was comdemning Islam, but what people do in the name of Islam. Izme is correct, this occrurred in the Sunni triangle, a long held bastion of support for Saddam, as he was a Sunni, which are the minority, and when he lsot power, so did they. They are fighting because they were given nothing in the new Iraqi government.
Yes the actions yesterday was deplorable, and it can be blamed on many factors: If violence is all you have ever known, what do you expect, lack of education, sheer religious zealotry, etc.
I personally think it is time for us to begin to ship Iraqi oil here to lower our prices. We did win, and although it was never about oil, why should we pay OPEC, when we can go straight to the tap and pay a fair market value that goes directly back into the Iraqi coffers. We get something, they get something. Win, win. Also, because these types of actions are only occurring in the Sunni triangle, I think it is time to be less than gracious with them. For too long we have been nice and always tried to be above the others who were acting atrocious, but lets perhaps show what a nice educated, industrialized nation can do when you do things like this. All we have to do is use their own system of Shia law. We'll just implement it, but lets roll in there and demonstrate why it is improper and uncivilized to mutiliate bodies. I kinda think Pershings pig burials in the Philippines would be appropriate. But then again, I am a little angry, sarcastic, cynical, and all messed up on cough syrup right now, so never mind.
