Hi there im posting this on behalf of my brother who just bought the Abit KD7A motherboard (as he was on very tight budget) . after installing the board he has encountered some serious problems.

1. when he connects the ide cables the CD & HD drives lose power.
But when he disconnects the ide cables the power goes through to the drives.

2. even when he disconnects the ide cables the comp wont reach the bios screen. what happens is this ( the fans power up and the monitor seems to kick into life, but then the monitor just shuts down again and the fans just keep spinning inside the tower.

he is tearing his hair out. as he has been trying for days to resolve this himself.

Sounds like he should RMA the motherboard.

The board does not need to have drives attached to POST . . Candy is probably right about it being bad.

Another thing to check, is the possibility that the board may shorting against the case. Hook it up outside the case with the bare minimums, one stick of ram, cpu, video card, power supply and see if you can get a post beep.
