Hi Mike,

When we went through the last upgrade, it was decided that you wouldn't allow zip files to be attached, as the potential to have a virus, or other malicious code in there was high.

Have you changed the policy, or were you unaware that you were allowing zip files right now??

What Are Attachments?
The administrator may allow you to use the attachment feature of this forum, which gives you the ability to attach files of certain types to your posts. This could be an image, a text document, a zip file etc. There will be a limit to the file size of any attachments you make, as the forums should not be used as an extension of your hard disk!

Am posting a zip file in Random

Hmm... Well, the zip file was enabled by default for vb3. At least with the zip file you have to open it before it does anything... Hmm... Thoughts?

Not something that is used or posted often, but can be useful. I know a board where there are hundreds of zipped folders from "trusted" members and no infections in the last two years !!

If anyone wants to infect there are easier ways to do so Mike

Well, it took a while, but I found the thread where we discussed the pros and cons before. http://forums.techguy.org/showthread.php?t=49931 post 6 starts talking about zips and exe's

Personally, with the fact that we have more people coming to the site then we had back in 2001, that it is even more imperative to protect visitors from pranksters.

That's why you've disabled scripting. I will stand by my original comments that zips should only be allowed after they have been approved by Mods, or other trusted sources.

Right now, anyone can impersonate someone who wants to help, and get someone to infect themselves by downloading a zip file from this site.

I think the zip attacment will be great to have to post other file types here or one that are to big and can be compress.
Like with my image programs I may be able to post obj files for PhotoImpact etc.

BUT:
Like Randy said we have to trust that no one puts something bad in one and other download it and who knows what happens.
I mean I have gotten a lot of email the pass couple of weeks with a 30 KB attachment and we know it is a virus but that is web base email and I delete it.

So the zip thing is nice but can we trust having it here.
Maybe an option where a mod has to turn it on for you would be good to have.
