I am in desperate need of some assistance and any help would be greatly appreciated.

My mouse has suddenly developed a mind of its own. Without warning, it begins to jump around and right-click itself. Or, it will just freeze up and do nothing at all. To correct the problem, I have to reboot...and everything might be fine for as long as a few hours or as little as two minutes. At the same time, I notice that I've developed a terrible lag.

I've recently (in the last 24 hours) scanned with Norton and came up with nothing. I'm running Win 98 - and like I said, I am desperate...my foot is about to make contact with my computer, and if it does - I'm kicking it right out my front door. Don't let my computer become a homeless stray :)

since you say it is clicking on its own and freezing, my idea probably isn't right for you, but I thought I'd put this up in the event that it might help someone. If you have an optical mouse (the kind with the light instead of a wheel), check to see if there is anything in the hole where the light comes out of. I had a dog hair in it and since the light works by "seeing" where the light hits, it would hit the hair and make it go crazy.

Nope, nothing fancy here...just an old school mouse (no laptop here) that's messing with the desktop - opening and closing programmes on its own and freezing all the time. Thanks for the suggestion though!
