My access to the internet over comcast broadband has slowed down to a crawl. Anyone know what might be wrong? Is it in my computer or maybe comcast?
Been doing this for 3 or 4 days now. Normally fast. Is there maybe something I can do to check my computer before calling the service dept?

Thanks,
jraquel

Hi,

Have you done any maintenance....deleted the Temporary Internet Files, History, Cookies, hidden URLs, TEMP files, Scandisk, Defrag??

Have you increased the size of your Default Receive Window in the registry?

What all do you have running at startup and in the background?

Are you running the ComCast software?

This is where I would start.

What are Comcast's advertised upload/download speeds?

Download and install Cablenut 4.08. Do not enter any settings in its adjuster window just yet.

Removed all temp files. Still slow. Defraged, scandisk, etc. Still Slow.

Don't know, off hand their speed, but it has always been FAST>>>>>

Will call CC today.

Thanks

Running Disk Defragmenter, running Scandisk, and deleting temp files is not going to have any effect on boosting your connection speed. It is good maintenance practice though.

How about memory? Maybe your RAM is maxed out-and I would deffinatly check what you have running in the background. Programs have a way of just finding themselves home in the start up with no invatation :)
My memory is running at 100%-actually still is- have RDRAM on the way and my pc has been crashing and the programs were acting wacky. But it all started out with slow pages opening on the internet, can you check the system information on the program you installed to get on the internet?-just a thought-good luck!

Howdy...jraquel

You might also have some spyware go here http://tomcoyote.com/hjt/ and download and install Hyjackthis, open the program and click on Scan, once the scan completes, click on Save log, then open the log and copy, and paste the contents back here...

You've got too many programs loading during startup and running in the background, which is going to effect your computer's overall performance.

Not nearly as much. Found there was some HP back ground stuff running (about 50 times of the same startup program), removed this an almost back to normal. :)

Thanks,
