Big problem,

I have two drives "C" (default 32 bit XPpro/SP2) and "D", the latter mostly for testing new software. "C" has 50 programs and around 25GB of data,

Installed 64bit XPpro on to "D" and updated it from Microsoft update with no problem.

On a re-boot "D" became the default drive. Used System/Advanced Settings to re-set the "C" drive as default.

Re-boot showed now that both drives were default and consquently neither opened!

I tried everything (but not in DOS mode) to try to get the 64 bit version to stop being default but could not do it.

Anyone know why, what, when etc?

I have now wiped "D" and recovered "C"
