Yes you can run without an A: drive but is a nuisance if you want to save to floppy or have to boot to DOS. You can move the drive to another bay if you have one open, if the drive doesnt fit (bay too wide) you can get a kit to make it fit. I think you may also be able to get a longer cable if you hunt around.
